Tonight I found myself once again listening live to the beautiful voice of the man we have loved for almost 4 years. It has been a strange journey to tonight. The last time I saw him was in a bar. Tonight, in a church.

You can say a lot of things about Jason Castro, but there a few undeniable things: He will always bring a smile to my face and he will always be one of the finest men on the face of this planet. Oh them tight-ass black jeans. *thud* What was I saying? Oh right, tonight's show. It was a mixture of debut album and Who I Am EP tracks. However, somewhere in the middle there, he mixed in a new song. It's not a new single or anything. It is a song they've had in the bag, but never played live. Here it is. All I Need.

Still makes me swoon after all these years.

Unfortunately, I'm not as passionate about Jason as I once was. As a result, I sincerely doubt I will ever support him at the level I have been. That's not to say I won't still buy his music and attend his shows, but I'm afraid my traveling and "street teaming" days are over. I became too invested, and as a result, there has been a LOT of hurt along the way. Many tears shed. And that is my own fault.

However, I don't think being a fan is tricky at all. Actually, I think it's pretty easy. I've been a fan of a lot of people for a very long time. I've never expected one damn thing from any of the artists I've admired and supported along the way except music. Then again, I've never supported an artist at the same level as I have supported Jason, and all fans are NOT created equal. Sorry. There are some who do nothing except buy music and attend shows. And that's fine. That's most fans. That's me where most artists are concerned. And the music and live shows are a perfectly acceptable "reward" for those fans.

But there are others who have donated countless hours of time supporting Jason, in particular, when they could have been doing other things... like spending time with our own families and friends, cleaning, running errands, or simply taking care of ourselves. Instead, we gave to this artist we believed in so much that we were willing to sacrifice some of that to see him succeed. Not because he was an American Idol contestant, but because we felt he was a worthy human being and artist who needed a helping hand.

As Colleen said, nothing I've ever done for Jason was done for thanks, but appreciation goes a long way with those who have worked the hardest for you and will ensure they continue to work hard for you. When your closest friends have been personally and genuinely thanked BY JASON for their contributions and you haven't been...even though you've worked just as hard...it leaves a mark. It's human nature, and I make no apologies for the way I feel. Anyone else would feel the same whether they admit it or not. There are other things, recent things, that have happened that have left scars as well. The details are unimportant, but I mention it, because people so often talk without having all the facts. And trust me when I say that you, the reader, don't know as much as you think you know. But people will pass judgment on you anyway based only on what they see.

We've never claimed to have all the answers. Sadly, by choice, I have no experience in the music industry. I don't know if any of the "advice" we've ever given Jason along the way has any merit. I think it's safe to say that most, if not all, of our active posting members have never wanted anything except the best for Jason, and we have longed to see him break free from the American Idol stigma for a while now. I hope he can. Meanwhile, he has a fanbase who found him through that show, got to know him through that show and tour, and grew to care about him because of that show... as much as I hate it now. We are a needy bunch. He may even consider us a giant pain in the ass. But without us, he wouldn't be here. And we have never claimed Jason hasn't been good to his fans. In fact, it's because of his goodness that we always expect more, I guess.

Some of the things Colleen speaks about, however, has nothing to do with humoring the fans. It's just common courtesy, and it will take you a long way in life and professionally... for anyone. Tweeting? It isn't that time consuming, and it keeps people focused on you. In the end, will it make any difference? I don't know. Twitter is so new, I'd venture to say that nobody knows. If it doesn't though, what has an artist lost by dropping a few random tweets every day? Really? Five minutes a day? But if it plays even a small part in helping that artist grow and sustain a fanbase, the reward...for the artist...is also music. They get to keep doing what they love. And we get to keep enjoying it.

If Jason had been greeted with the success Carrie Underwood had after departing American Idol, this wouldn't even be a thought in any of our minds. But he's not experiencing that kind of success. He's not an established artist yet. And I happen to believe that anything he could do to sustain and/or grow his fanbase has far more impact that anything we could ever do.

I’ve wanted to write this letter for a long time, some of this stuff for months, but I’ve always held back. I figure now is as good a time as any. You told me that you’ve read this blog in the past and I really hope you get a chance to read this one.

I guess I’ll start with Twitter and what some of your fans have termed “cluttergate.” I knew it was a bad idea, you following fans, and I posted it at JGG the day you did. I saw right away that it was going to be a mess. The followed vs. the unfollowed. Now, I really believe you did it for the right reason but you didn’t think it through. Hey, we’re all human.

But, yep, you were right, it totally screwed up your timeline. The problem is, you should have seen that right away but instead you kept adding more people. The longer it went on, the harder it was on your fans to end up being unfollowed. Your wording… not so good. No one wants to feel like what they say is clutter. It makes them feel unimportant. And your timing was also bad. Right now, not a whole lot is going on, at least not what we can see. So it seems to me a poor time to unfollow fans.

Next, the Street Team. I resigned from your street team. There were a lot of reasons that led me to that decision but none of them had anything to do with me no longer wanting to support your career. I was the Southern California leader and I had more team members than anyone outside of Texas. But there were/are problems. I couldn’t get any responses to emails I sent out. I did get a few at the beginning but by the time I left I was getting nothing. I was a one-woman team. I realized that the hours I had spent emailing, compiling mailing lists, responding to directives, were really doing nothing to help you. I figured I could do as much on my own--- and I feel I have. I also left because I was incredibly disappointed in the leadership of your street team. By the time I resigned, many of the members of headquarters were simply disinterested in you. Yes, they did what was asked of them but they did it without the passion I felt. It seemed to become a job to them, not a labor of love. In truth, they seemed more interested in making rules and behavior guidelines for the state leaders to follow than they were in you. In fact, almost all of the regional and HQ leaders have gone on to be more interested in other artists or are simply absent. If you don’t believe me, check their tweets.

And I have to add that another reason for my leaving was YOUR lack of interest in the street team, your lack of interest in promoting yourself. In my opinion, you should have been announcing where your tour was going at least a couple of days ahead. Over and over I read people saying that they were sorry they had missed your show because they didn’t know about it ahead of time or didn’t have enough notice. Many fans are casual and they simply don’t go to your website. Also, you should have been thanking the cities and the people who came to your show--- every time. People like to be thanked. It’s just human nature. And… you should have been publicly thanking your street team. They don’t do it for the thanks. At least, I know I never did but it’s just the right thing to do when people are working their asses off for you, continually and for free.

Finally, this is the hard part. While you are still gaining followers on twitter and people are still talking about you on Facebook, (mostly from the Philippines) I guess you can see that many of your most ardent supporters seemed to have moved on. They either don’t tweet at all or they are tweeting someone new. Maybe that doesn’t mean anything. You need new fans. Every artist does. But losing fans that have hung with you for over two years can’t be good. I suppose part of that is that you aren’t currently on tour and I know that’s a complicated issue. I realize that this is not your doing and it would be a shame if people held you responsible for that. But… there are things you could be doing. Tweeting is one. Fans who have come to know you really enjoy reading your tweets. It makes them feel connected and that translates into album sales and concert tickets. It also keeps their attention on you. When other artists tweet and you don’t it’s just natural for people to go elsewhere and sadly I have seen a lot of that lately. You see, when there isn’t much happening, that is the time when you need to tweet more, not less. Random stuff is fine. Little updates on your music are always appreciated but one caveat. If you don’t want people to comment on your personal life, don’t tweet about it. You know?

Now, even though this letter is to you, I’m no fool. It’s a blog. I know other people are going to be reading it and I’ll probably catch shit for this. I might even get “fired” from my “job” as a moderator on your web site. I have learned that being a fan is a little like being back in junior high. If people don’t like what you have to say, they either talk behind your back or tell you personally what you shouldn’t have said what you did. They aren’t going to like this because I'm saying what I think right to you. I am treating you like a man, like a (gasp) real person. I happen to believe that you are both and you’d rather hear the truth than have your ass kissed. (Lord knows you get plenty of that.) You know me well enough by now to know that it’s not my style. I’m bossy, smart and I pay attention. You can listen to what I’ve said or ignore it. It’s up to you but you can believe it’s all true. I have no hidden agendas and I’m still crazy about you.

The True Value of Fans

I’m a fan. Gosh, that sounds so shallow and really rather embarrassing. I am so used to defining myself as something important, a teacher, a technology advocate, a devoted friend. And now, I’m actually calling myself a fan. So trivial, actually…

The first stage in my “fandom” was just a passing interest, a passing interest in a beautiful man who seemed to have a unique talent. And then I met all these other regular people, many of which were new at this fan stuff, themselves. Maybe this wasn’t as odd as I thought. Haha.

But then the plot thickened. Let’s just say this whole thing snowballed on me. It turned into the creation a fan website and a lot ( I mean, A LOT) more. It was fun. It was exciting and joyful. I was doing it for ME.

And then…. All activity of my artist stopped. His tour was over and people started to return to their regular lives. I (and now I say we. We, as in my website partners and many other devoted fans) started seeing fans lose interest. By that time, we had begun to feel committed to this artist. We wanted so desperately for him to succeed and for him to continue to have an audience that we worked our asses off to keep the few fans he had left, engaged. We posted at our own site like fools and at other sites, as well. And still we watched the casual fans go on to newer and more visible artists. Some of us hung on. Sometimes it was for him, sometimes for each other but hang on we did.

And then came the street team. Most everyone I had come to know through this bizarre new world, jumped right in, rolled up their sleeves and joined the team. There were more people interested in helping than there were positions to be filled. Lucky him. It seemed like we were finally doing something real to support our artist. The street team was a good fit for some of us. Others of us learned we worked best independent of that structured environment.

This is what I have learned:

Out of 47,000 plus “fans,” there are about fifty that are more than casual fans. And so what? Some may say these fifty are the nuts. But, these remaining fifty or so are the ones who constantly tell anyone who will listen just how great their artist is. They buy multiple copies of his CD so they can give them as gift to friends and even strangers to get the word out about this guy. They drive their Facebook friends crazy posting his videos and tour dates, and make store managers roll their eyes when they continue to request copies of a CD by an artist most managers have never even heard of. They travel for miles to see his concerts. They buy tickets for friends to go with them to the concerts, promising them that he is wonderful. And. They promote him. THEY are the ones who go out in freezing weather and ask store and restaurant managers to allow them to hang poster or pass flyers. THEY are the ones who document every aspect of said postering because it is a requirement for the privilege of doing so,. They write blogs. They write reviews. They use Twitter to not only communicate news but also to find new and creative ways to reach beyond their small circle and out to the world, in general, to get this new artist the attention they feel he deserves. The hours they have spent are countless. And all out of love.

Fifty or so people out of 47,000 may not seem like they’re very important, but. they. are. You are.

You have helped start a launch without any expectation of reward or compensation. You should be proud of yourselves and the artist should be forever grateful.

And that is the true VALUE of being a fan.

Should American Idol invite Jason Castro back to perform this year?

Jason Castro's rich vocals, charm, and stunning good looks made him an instant favorite among viewers of American Idol's seventh season, and I dare say that because of all of those things (and his dreadlocked scalp), he is one of the most memorable contestants that they have ever had on their show. They were smart to include him in the top 24 that year.

Having said that, I'm surprised that American Idol has not invited him back to perform on their show. With so many singer/songwriters in their top 10 this year and with the release of Jason's debut CD on the horizon, this seems the obvious time to have him back. After all, ABC featured him on "The Bachelor: Jason and Molly's Wedding" on March 8th where he performed "Over the Rainbow", one of his most memorable American Idol performances, and "That's What I'm Here For", his most recent single from his self titled debut album slated for release on April 13th.

Granted, we are biased, but surely there are others who would love to see him on the American Idol stage one more time. So, what say you?

No Contest

The judges were right. There have been some really great "Hallelujah" moments on the American Idol stage. Two of them to be precise: when Jason Castro performed it the first time, and when Jason Castro performed it the second time.

Randy and Simon, say it with me, "It was a bold move to perform that song after Jason Castro did it so perfectly." See? It's not that hard. The more you say it, the easier it gets. Practice that for the next few days, and maybe...just maybe...you'll be ready to acknowledge how good Jason really is by the time he performs on your little televised talent show. That is, if American Idol is smart enough to ask him back.

Colleges retire the jerseys of some of their best players...it's really cool to see number 23 hanging in the rafters at UNC-CH. Such should be the case with the great performances on the American Idol stage. "Hallelujah" as performed by Jason Castro should be included in that group.

But if you think Jason Castro's American Idol performance of that song can't be topped, think again. Just listen to how he does it now.

On Phone-a-thons and Photo Ops

So often I see celebrities at charity functions. And being an intelligent person, I realize that at least some of it is for publicity. It looks good to have an artist show their altruism. And I know that some celebrities just get their pictures taken, take a couple of calls, answer a few questions. You know, basically whisk in and whisk out. I've wondered just what impact they make.

And now I know.

The following is an excerpt from a blog written by family members of a boy being treated at Boston's Childrens' Hospital. It brought me to the tears I am now shedding. Tears of empathy for Cody and his family. Tears of embarrassment for feeling so jaded. Sometimes these "photo ops" touch hearts. They make a difference even if it's just for a moment.

It was just so beautiful and really spoke to me. This has been a difficult time and we often aren’t completely in touch with our emotions about it. I find myself being strong at the hospital and then crying at commercials. This time, I was crying right there in the hospital for the reasons that I was actually hurting. Just so real.

This is not a man who tolerates criticism he does not feel he deserves. He is no shrinking violet. And while all his fans rush in to defend him against all the fans who have seemingly turned on him (out of disappointment, no doubt), Jason, the man, takes care of business. He sets the record straight with sincerity, humor and.... pardon my French, balls.

Two years ago today, a nervous but hopeful Jason Castro stepped out onto the American Idol stage to perform "Daydream" and captured our hearts forever. His warm vocals, tight pants, and dreadlocks got our attention right away. The humility and charm evident in the on-stage exchange with Ryan Seacrest sealed the deal for many of us.

Jason, thanks for sharing your music and your life with us. You have touched our hearts in ways that we would've never imagined and introduced us to women who would become our best friends. Your music gives us joy. Your smile and piercing blue eyes still make us melt into a puddle of goo. Your caring nature and amazing ability to connect to us personally has earned our loyality. You are our friend, Jason, and we love you.

This was our introduction to Jason. The five minutes that would change our lives for the better.

Handlebars? Don't even think about it Jason....

Jon Chattman of the Huffington Post posted a short interview with Jason. Though it was comprised mostly of the same questions we hear all the time, there were two that stood out, one of which made me chuckle. See if you can figure out which one.

Whose career would you like to emulate?
I would say Tom Petty. I am obsessed with Tom Petty. In more modern day I would say somebody like John Mayer, though I think he is a couple steps behind Tom Petty. Those guys are just unstoppable...each one of them, and I would to love to be able to be around like one of them.

On another note for no reason other than my own, who has the best mustache ever and why?
Right now the only mustache coming to mind is Hulk Hogan and his handle bar. I like those. I am a big fan of handle bars. Mainly because I could never have a mustache and it sucks so I am very envious of those with beards and such.

Hallelujah! An interview with Jason focusing solely on the music! It's a good one, too.

My favorite tidbit focused on Jason's "not so glamorous" life on the road:

"I don't know if there's one big challenge but I think right now it's really an uphill drive or an uphill hike. Right now it's just a lot of dirty work, it's not the glamour that everyone imagines it. You know the, 'Oh you were on American Idol,' so you automatically go, 'You must have a tour bus and a number one on the radio,' it's not like that." But he isn't taking it for granted either, "Everyday is kind of surreal just to realize that I get the opportunity to do something I love everyday and somehow call it a job, somehow make a living. I really, right now, could not be happier with where I'm at, with the way things are going and the music that we've got."

I love ya, Jason, but I'm glad that you're getting some experience in the "trenches". It will make you a better artist and far more appreciative of success. In my humble opinion, all artists should have to spend some time doing what you're doing right now. Everyone...American Idol finalists or not.

Things we'd like Jason to work on - Part I

So, I'm sitting here in my pajamas...snowed in...with a few vodka crans in my system and thinking.

I wonder if Jason ever thought, "Why in the hell is this woman taking so many pictures of me on stage?"

The answer is simple. Poor lighting and "pelican face". When the lighting stinks, so do pictures. And if you're successful in getting a few of those pictures to actually come out, you discover that Jason is making "pelican face" in three quarters of them.

What is "pelican face" you ask? Well, I just so happen to have a goo gillion pictures of Jason making "pelican face" on stage.

And that's just during soundcheck.

These are just from two shows. My shows...at The Evening Muse in Charlotte and Local 506 in Chapel Hill. There are others.

But...after all of your effort...you get a shot that looks like this...

And you find that the 150 pictures you took were worth it.

Jason, you have the most beautiful smile we have ever seen. Please save our batteries and bring it out more.

I don't think it's a secret anymore that Michael made it to the Hollywood round, filmed this past week, for the ninth installment of American Idol. I read the spoilers citing he had been cut and hoped they weren't true.

Then, he tweeted this:

Michael_Castro Gonna get some writing in this week! Made a better version of me singing trouble for you, and you, and youtube.. gonna post it later.

I can only assume, at this point, that there was some validity to what I read, since past American Idol contestants have been silenced once they made Top 24.

Michael, we just want you to know that we're proud of you. I was truly impressed by your EP and thought the writing was exceptional. If this is the career you want, don't give up on it. Trust me. There will be regrets if you do. It will be hard, but I believe being happy doing what you're doing is far more important than fame and fortune or settling. Plus, it would be a shame for others to miss out on what we've been fortunate enough to hear.

Now that that's out of the way, the cover is up, so I go over to youtube to grab the code only to find that he has taken down all of the old videos. Michael, what the hell?? I hadn't ripped the last two to my iPod yet!! So, you'll either have to put them back up or do them over. I believe they were "Home" and my personal favorite, "In Search of Tomorrow". Thanks in advance for getting right on that.

And if the spoilers are wrong, then hooray! Can't wait for the Top 24. If they're right, then that's American Idol's loss, sugar. Not yours. Love and support to you, Michael. Keep making music we love, and we'll keep listening. =)

Happy New Year?

Where has the time gone? It's so cliché, I know, but it really has flown by. I awoke today pondering all that has happened in the last 365 days and felt compelled to share some of my thoughts with those who follow this blog and to those who have been so loyal to JGG. To you, I thank you. We all thank you.

Take a stroll down memory lane with me, if you will, as we remember 2009 with Jason and each other.

FEBRUARY

On February 16th, Jason posted a 'date night' answering fan questions from a blog that he posted several days prior. Laura Anne's "tree" question prompted a laugh from him and a squeal from her...and us, as he worked his way down the list reading the comments we posted. He also addressed Heather's "shirtless" question which would inspire the birthday gift we shipped to Rockwall, TX following that video.

A few days later, we celebrated one year with Jason. Who could ever forget the first time we saw him? His cover of "Daydream", his charm, humility, extraordinary good looks, and those damn jeans made him an instant favorite with many American Idol fans...us included. It is still, in my opinion, one of his best performances to date.

I chose the video with the judge's comments because they were all so complimentary to him that day, and his conversation with Ryan at the end was just the most adorable I have ever seen him.

He even recorded a one year anniversary video for us. The first seven seconds are my favorite. Sexy . as . hell.

MARCH

On March 25th, Jason turned 22. We sent him a box full of goodies to warm him up so he could get out of his shirt for a future date night video. It included a heater (thanks to Tara for that stroke of genius), a bottle of Goldschlager cinnamon schnapps, "hot" food, and "hot" tunes.

Two days later, he played a show at Texas A&M and delivered the best cover of "Crazy" I had ever heard. I really hope he revives it for a future show, because nobody does it like he does. He also unveiled some great news songs like "Matter of Time", "Closer", and "Wait", and I'm personally hoping all three appear on the debut album.

The video is bad, but it's the only one I could find. "Crazy" begins around the three minute mark.

On the same day, we expanded JGG to include a nursery for our three expectant mothers. A place for them to document their pregnancies and share their pictures and stories.

APRIL

Jason signs with Atlantic Records!

On April 24th, we celebrated one year together and the day we all lost our minds. It all started with this video:

Jason's first webchat, originally scheduled on my birthday, then moved to Mike's birthday on April 29th. Haha. Thank heavens. I would've missed hearing him take my question live. =)

MAY

Off to Los Angeles to work on the debut album!

JUNE

Laura Anne FINALLY met Jason on a day trip to Los Angeles on June 13th.

June 15th marked the one year anniversary of our site, www.jasonsgothgirls.com. Our Independence Day! Woo hoo!

JULY

Two beautiful new babies, Sydney and Alexander, were born to members of our forum, angeljade and Lisa.

AUGUST

On August 18th, Jason hosts his second webchat, during which he answered Karlasu's question, premiered his first single "Let's Just Fall in Love Again", and unveiled his new website www.jasoncastromusic.com.

On August 25th, Amber gave birth to Gracie, our third GG baby!

On August 29th, we unveiled our very own site redesign complete with a Q&A from Jason himself.

SEPTEMBER

Jason shoots his first video for the first single off of his first album.

"Let's Just Fall in Love Again", Jason's first single, is released to iTunes on September 1st!

On the road again. Finally! Jason set out on a radio/mall tour where many of us had a chance to see him perform live again for the first time since the American Idol Tour. First stop? Charleston, SC on September 13th where Jason heard his single on the radio for the first time... and so did JCmyfascination and I! =D

OCTOBER

On October 6th, Jason announced his album release date would be delayed until early 2010, but shortly after that, on October 14th, he premiered the music video for "Let's Just Fall in Love Again" on Yahoo.

NOVEMBER

Jasoncastromusic.com announces plans for Jason to join Matt Hires on tour in January 2010.

DECEMBER

On December 11th, Jason arrives in Jacksonville, NC for Bob 93.3's annual Mistletoe Mixer. I was lucky enough to get a few minutes with him before the show where I presented a Christmas gift from JGG. His first vinyl. Oh, yeah...and a shirt that read, "It's not going to lick itself". Haha. Our answer to this:

December 14th... the final webchat of 2009.

I just love him... period. I can't help it. He's very special to me. To all of us.

The last couple of months have been the roughest EVER on our forum. We have been officially buzz killed, and it is as bad as it gets. We've had a lot of visitors stopping in... wondering, I guess, about the future of our forum. What's to come of JGG? I guess it's the "elephant in the room".

This is the way I see it. We have showered that man with love and support for nearly two years. We've poured our hearts and souls into him, into telling others about his music, and into this site and its members.

What has changed? Nothing.

~ We still love his music.
~ We still think he's a hot and sexy guy.
~ We still love him and the women who post at this site.

Nothing has changed... and nothing will change. We fully intend to remain right here for as long our members are posting with us. We fully intend to continue to support Jason and his music. And we absolutely intend to admire the sexiness that is Jason Castro.

Offended? Sorry. We are who we are, and we're not going to change. It may take a while to get our mojo back, but it will return with a vengeance.

I'm proud of the work we've done for Jason. This site is a labor of love for him and for all of those who post here. I hope you'll all continue to post or lurk... whatever it is you're comfortable doing when you visit.

With a tour and a debut album on the horizon, 2010 will be a happy new year indeed.

The Literary Stylings of a Goth Girl: Holiday Edition

Those of you who have been around for a while may have already come to realize that we are naughty, irreverent, shameless (some of us more than others), and as Jason's little brother, Michael, recently pointed out, "relentless". (God, I love a man who isn't afraid to cite the obvious.) We also value good writing and humor, and we think we're pretty clever and funny... most of the time.

Yes, the Goth Girls are ~~a bunch of classy, virtuous, demure, and humble~~ women. Women who love Jason Castro... who is also classy, virtuous, demure, and humble. Who said opposites attract?

Last year around this time, I thought it would be fun to rewrite the Dr. Seuss classic, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". It took a long time, and I nearly gave up halfway through. I even put it aside for a couple of weeks, but in the end, I decided I was not going to let a grinch get the best of me and finished what I started... just in time for Christmas. I even posted it on Jason's myspace. *sigh* It was a proud moment.

Colleen suggested I blog the parody this year. So here it is... Goth Girl style.

NOTE: No disrespect to Dr. Suess or American Idol intended. I got nothin' but love for my favorite children's book author, and we realize the show is responsible for introducing us to Jason in the first place and for getting him noticed.

Every girl down in Gothville loved Jason a LOT.
But the powers that be at AI…they did NOT.

They all hated Jason the whole AI season.
Now please don’t ask why, no one quite knows the reason.
It could be that their heads weren’t screwed on just right.
It could be, perhaps, Jason’s pantz were too tight.
But I think the most likely reason of all
May have been that their hearts were two sizes too small.

But whatever the reason, their hearts or the pantz,
They sat there on Tuesday reciting their rants.
Staring up from their scripts with their sour, grinchy frowns.
Thinking, “How has he earned the support of those clowns.”
Among them, the Goth Girls were flipping their lids
Especially after the Tainted Love vid.

“They’re singing his praises and voting like mad.
Those Goth Girls will ruin all the plans that we had.”
Then Nygel with wheels turning round in his head said,
“In the end, we’ll have Cook vs. Archie instead.”

Then he turned to the judges and questioned the three,
“How could you put Jason through Hollywood week?
Oh, those fans, how they shriek! How they shriek! Shriek! Shriek! Shriek!
If there’s one thing I hate it’s the shrieks! Shrieks! Shrieks! Shrieks!”

“The girls young and old are sitting down every chance,
To stare at his eyes, and his dreads, and his pantz.
Oh the pantz! Jason’s pantz! Jason’s pantz! Pantz! Pantz! Pantz!
His pantz have them all in a permanent trance.
They don’t even care that the guy cannot dance!”

Then they’d do something he liked least of all!
Every Goth down in Gothville, the tall and the small,
Would pick up their phones and for two hours straight
They would vote while their dinner sat cold on their plate.

They’d vote! And they’d vote!
And they’d vote! Vote! Vote! Vote!
And the more Nygel thought of this Goth voting spree,
The more Nygel thought, “We must go to plan B!
“Why, for 63 days I’ve put up with it now!
We MUST stop Jason from winning!

…But HOW?”

Then he got an idea!
An awful idea!
THAT GRINCH
GOT A WONDERFUL, AWFUL IDEA!

“Is it true that Jason has a cold and sore throat?
If we push him real hard he might miss a note.
Then we’ll make him look like a foolish ding dong
By failing to mention a cat sang that song.”
“And I need your assistance Simon, Paula, and Randy
We’ll write bad critiques…won’t that come in handy?
Remember to hold them til the end of the show.
Just read what I’ve written and no one will know.
It won’t really matter how he sings on that night.
With you three behind me, he’ll go down with no fight.
The David’s finale is finally in sight!”

Meanwhile, a new thread on the forum emerged
Where like-minded Castro admirers converged.
“Jason in Goth” was the thread’s simple name.
Life after Goth would not be the same.

The premise was simple: Goth Jason was hot!
And six in particular did not want to stop.
Laura, Angie, Melinda, and Madi
Joined Colleen and Amber to drool over Goth Daddy.

For three nights and four days, the thread grew and grew.
And soon other women joined in the fun, too!
They knew that some fans found their comments uncouth.
But the Goth Girls cared not…and that is the truth!

The thread was soon canned
And the Goth Girls were banned
From AI.com and Jason Castro Land.
All of them but Melinda were kicked.
She was spared by the mods…her cohorts were ticked!
They all soon met up in a chat room to play
There, friendships were forged and they knew they would stay.

On American Idol the following week.
Jason was still on his winning streak.
Neil Diamond was the week’s big theme.
Forever in Blue Jeans he sang supreme.
He charmed us all again that night.
With sultry vocals and blue eyes bright.

The powers that be had much different plans.
To send a message to all of his fans.
So after his “Blue Jeans” performance was through
Jason lined up with the rest for review.

First there was Randy. His critique…no surprise.
He’d been waiting all season for Jason’s demise.

Next, it was Paula Abdul’s turn to share
She lowered her head to read what was there.
On the script cards that were written for her
Was Jason’s review which would cause quite stir.

“The lower register on your first Diamond song.
Was so nice to hear because it has been long
Since you’ve showcased that skill on the Idol stage.”
Paula reads further down the small scripted page.
“The second song lacked your usual charm.
It left me empty, and I am alarmed.
It may not be enough to make the top four.
If you don’t fight to stay, we’ll show you the door.”
Members of the studio audience laughed
At Paula for making herself to look daft.

Paula had shocked everyone on the show
Judges, contestants, and fans of Castro.
They stood on the stage and looked all confused
In the AIM chat, the Goth Girls were less than amused.

She confirmed what they had all known all the while
AI was a sham and their actions were vile.
Randy tried to make up for Paula’s mistake.
And for Jason, the Goth Girls’ hearts they did ache.

It didn’t take long for their smiles to grow dim.
For they knew it would all soon be over for him.
The odds of a top three appearance were slim.

Things did not improve the next week on the show.
It was clear that this was the week he would go.

His first song was I Shot the Sheriff you see.
He played to the crowd and sang confidently.
Then Simon began his review of distaste
“What were you thinking?” he uttered in haste.
Goth Daddy’s expression was one of surprise
“I was thinking Bob Marley!” came his quick reply.

The Goth Girls rejoiced though still they were low.
They didn’t want Jason to leave that dumb show.
They’d grown so accustomed to seeing him now.
It wasn’t his time to take his final bow.
So they hoped and they prayed all night and all day
For some kind of miracle to come Jason’s way.
But alas it did not. On Wednesday, you see…
Was Jason’s big sing out to the tune of Marley.

The Goth Girls were there for each other that night
In the chat room at AIM they denounced Jason’s plight.
Afraid that too soon they would each be denied
Of their weekly dose of their free Castro ride.

But Jason’s face would again grace the tv
But this time for shows like Regis and Kelly
The interviews came and the Goth Girls were thrilled
They still had their boy and their hearts were fulfilled.

Then soon the tour started and most headed for
A show that was close for the man they adore.
Laura Anne was the first to see the big show.
But Colleen was the first one to meet him you know.

She went to the show Super Soaker in hand
To present a second one to our Goth man.
“Have you heard of us?” she asked with a squee.
“Oh yeah,” he responded flirtatiously.

Soon after, our Heather came up with a plan
For a gothy new gift for our number one man.
Diesel jeans was the gift but the trick was so sly
Two delicate G’s stitched right into the fly.
They would come with a short, mischievous note.
“We finally got into your pants,” the girls wrote.
Charlotte, N.C. was the hot place to be
With Goth Girls of four bearing gifts for Daddy.

Melinda and Erin and Colleen and Tammy
Stood in front of Jason…hearts racing, hands clammy.
He opened the jeans and asked with delight
“What size are these?” We hoped they’d be tight.
Fangirls to the max, I’m afraid to convey.
We asked him to wear them later on in the day.
Believe it or not, at the end of the show
Doors opened and out came our man in slow mo.

The eyes of the four enamored Goth queens
Looked down, just in time…

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving. Traditionally, a time to gather with family and friends to give thanks for all the blessings we have received in the recent year. It is still a time to share a table with loved ones and to share God's bounty. But traditions evolve and so I find myself give thanks in a new way today.

I have been blessed, during the past year and a half, to meet and get to know some remarkable people. Some of them remain "on-line friends" but many others have become the dearest of friends in real life. I know I would never have met them in another place and time. They live across this country and around the planet. Because of them, my world has gotten a little bit smaller and my life has become far richer. And for this, I give thanks.

So why here? What does this have to do with Jason Castro? It is simply because, for whatever reason, we all saw a man, an artist, that struck a special chord in us. He is our common thread.

And so Jason, I do give thanks for you. While you were following your own path, lives were being changed, and for the better. I know mine has been.

I wish all of you the happiest of times. Appreciate every moment. I love each and every one of you.

Veteran's Day

Veteran's Day was especially important for me this year knowing my brother will soon be deployed to Iraq. It's been tough to accept, but he's in a good place about it, so I have to be, too.

A member of each generation of my family has served in some branch of the military. I am proud of them all. It is because of them...their sacrifices...that we enjoy the freedoms we have today.

I know that I'm a little late with this blog, but it's never too late to thank our veterans and active military for their service to our country.

First, Katie O'Brien, morning show for 107.5 Greensboro, went "construction worker" on Jason. At least, that was the claim made by her co-host. She did sound a bit "smitten" during the radio interview, and she certainly seemed transfixed on Jason in this picture:

Jason Castro was in the building yesterday! For those of you who don’t watch American Idol, he was on a couple of seasons ago - the guy with the dreadlocks and the voice of an angel - sigh... what a treat! He sang a couple of singles from his upcoming first album and then he sang “Hallelujah” which brought the house down when he sang it on “Idol”!!! So great to have teen aged daughters to use as my “reasons” for wanting to meet Jason Castro, when it was really Mama Kat over here who was needing to control herself...

Ladies, we have known for quite some time. Come on in. And don't forget your hard hat.

A change is gonna come...

On June 15th, 2008, we opened the doors to Jasons Goth Girls. At the time, we had a very small, yet devoted, following, and they came barreling in like kids in a candy store. Running from one room to the next in our forum, taking it all in and relishing in the fact that they didn't have to move anymore. We were home.

It's been a little over a year since that time, and a lot has happened since then. We've grown our membership totals (and lurker totals) considerably. We celebrated the one year anniversary of Jason's first appearance on Idol and the one year anniversary of the Goth Girls. Most importantly, we celebrated the signing of our "beloved" to Atlantic Records and now the release of his first single. We have had a lot of fun.

Since Jason has moved on to bigger and better things, we thought it was time our site reflected that. In addition to answering audience questions, he will discuss how he obtained a worldwide record deal at Atlantic and a publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group. Castro also will perform — for the first time — a song from his debut CD set for release in October; and will invite various students to perform and jam with him on "Hallelujah" and "Daydream," two songs that he performed on "American Idol." The evening will culminate with performances by campers and instructors will give constructive criticism on their performances and musical skills. Music Journalism track students will interview students about the learning and collaborative processes that took place during the concert.

While we're waiting for Jason's CD release, I thought I'd pass the time by focusing on some of my favorite "Jason" things. His music, his pictures, his vlogs, his bulletins, etc. Today's focus is....

DATE NIGHT!

During the AI tour, you came to know them well and came to expect them...every Tuesday. Tuesday night Date night. Aah, Tuesday was a great day to be a Jason Castro fan. Rushing home from work or school to log on to find our pretend boyfriend telling us about his week: what he had eaten, what he had read, where he had been, what he did while he was there. We found out that he gambled a little, that he's "not a beer guy", and that the "most delicious chicken sandwich" can be purchased in Green Bay, Wiscaaahnsin.

It was evident that he was more comfortable filming his vlogs around other people (i.e the fans, his family, and friends), but he was smart enough to realize...very quickly...that his fans, the majority of them, wanted him ALONE! And he delivered. So as awkward as it was for him (and he was sometimes very quick to remind you of that), he persevered...week after week. Just Jason (most of the time) and a camera. From his hotel room, the bus, backstage at the final AI show, and flat on his back from bed (a Goth Girl favorite), came some of the cutest, most awkward, sexiest, and flirtatious Jason moments ever captured on video. Sometimes, he was a bad boyfriend. He did not always show up on time. But when he finally came, he made it worth the wait. Just gazing upon his smiling face and into his entrancing blue eyes had us all breathing a unanimous *sigh*, and he was soon forgiven.

Then the tour ended, and the date nights became fewer and far between, as he began taking meetings, which eventually led to a deal with Atlantic Records, and inking songs to appear on his upcoming CD.

Our boyfriend has not forgotten about us though. He still posts the occasional date night, and we still ooh and aah when we see them. Though they do not come as often as we like, we understand that he's busy, and we appreciate everything he does for us.

It was a genius idea. A marketing tool that would keep his fans coming back week after week after week. Drooling and longing for their turn to see him LIVE in their city. I give you...date night. Some of my favorites (in no particular order).

1. The Bathrobe

Why: Because he is a big, fat tease.

2. The Swing

Why: Because I love his playfulness in this one.

3. The Anniversary

Why: Because he is so damn hot in this one I just can't stand it. I also like the fact that he appears to be a little tipsy and that we get some bizarre laughter that resembles a combination of Ka's laugh (the snake from The Jungle Book) and Muttley's laugh. Whatever it was, it was the first time I had ever heard it, and it made me laugh my ass off. Still does.

4. Chillin' With the Fam

Why: I am risking having my Goth Girl card revoked for this one, because the fam is in it. Not that we don't love them, mind you, but usually the presence of the fam, interferes with a Goth Girl's lusting mojo. But not this one. Uh uh. Not for me. I loved the dorky faces he made in this one and that laugh of his is infectious. I love to hear Jason laugh. AND we got to hear a little guitar strumming to what sounds like, "Hallelujah", as he ended the date. Nothing sexier than a man and a guitar. Especially this man.

5. Jason Takes Our Questions

Why: Because we find out some important shit in this one. Like, how he takes his Starbucks, what that mystery object was in the background, and that it was too cold in his apartment to film a shirtless date night. This knowledge would eventually lead to his birthday gift: a heater for shirtless date nights. He also said Laura's name in this one, which nearly sent her hyperventilating. But most importantly, because the Goth Girls made him laugh. Again. And we love to make our Goth Daddy laugh. And it was over eight minutes long! Woo hoo!

6. The Bed, # 1

Why: Duh!

7. Hanging Dreads

Why: If I have to explain, YOU are NOT a Goth Girl.

8. Seaside Date Night, # 1

Why: Because we found out that he "fangirled" over Ray Lamontagne and that he met him with a Ray LaMontagne shirt draped over his shoulder. Wish I could've been a fly on the wall for that. It might have made me feel better about my first encounter with Jason. Also, because I found out that he is a fan of the "Saw" movies. That was extremely exciting for me. It was also over five minutes of Jason. And...the beach. Duh.

9. The Last AI Show

Why: It's sentimental. It made me cry like a fool. And he sure said "whenever" a lot.

10. Sweet Medicine

Why: I'm not really sure this was a "date night" technically, but I consider it one. This one was special because he logged on at JCM to tell us about it. Even started a thread for it of which the whole first page is almost entirely Goth Girl replies. What can I say? We're quick. But the thing that touched me most about this is that he wanted to share his music with us...in the middle of the night, completely out of the blue. I remember thinking that he sounded a little sad, and I wanted to give him a hug. Hated the "glow effect", but he made up for that in song.

I just have to say that after last night's tweeting spree, frenzy, whatever, I just adore this man more than ever. Yeah, maybe he was just bored and playing with his new toy but still, the way he behaved last night was one of the reasons I was drawn to him in the first place. When you only like an artist for their music, you simply buy their CD. That's where it stops. That, certainly, is where I've stopped in the past.

But as if I need to tell anybody here, Jason is special. It does not surprise me one bit that he has brought together some of the funniest women I have ever met. He has one wicked sense of humor. Yep, beyond his incredible hotness, his gorgeous face and his artistic soul, he harbors a sense of playfulness that is perfectly suited for his Goth Girls. Playfulness. That's what we're about here and that is who he is. Without it, JGG would never have been created or still be in business.

JASON CASTRO

The original dark horse contestant on "American Idol," Jason Castro finished in fourth place in season seven and in April signed with Atlantic Records, marking the first time the label will work with an "Idol" alumnus.

"If you fell in love with Jason on the show, this is exactly the record you'd want him to make," says Pete Ganberg, Atlantic executive vice president/head of A&R. "It's introspective, playful and very much a combination of his influences, which range from Jeff Buckley to Jack Johnson."

The dreadlocked singer co-wrote 11 songs on the 14-track set, which features production and additional songwriting by Evan Rosse, John Fields and Kara DioGuardi.

"I'm really excited about the music we've written," says Castro, who also signed a deal with Universal Music Publishing Group in June. "I'm ready to get out there and show it to the world."

A debut single is expected to hit radio in August.

Looks like our relationship is back on again. He's been working so hard on his CD but he remembered our date. This time, a recently shaven Jason took us to the beach. No, he wasn't shirtless but he was wearing that white Tshirt that we like so well. In a word, he was GORGEOUS! Yeah, then there was some info for the "I'm not interested in how he looks, I only like him for his music" fans. He's recorded four "potential singles" to prepare for promotion and next week he begins working on eleven or twelve more songs. Jason, we. can't wait.

Oh, did I mention he was as sexy as hell?

According to an interview in The Times-Picayune, Kevin Griffin, of the rock group Better Than Ezra, has written songs for Jason Castro. Guessing that the songs are potentially for Jason's upcoming album. Very exciting.

The "American Idol" franchise has supplied a steady stream of work. He landed a track on David Cook's album, and penned songs for season seven contestants Jason Castro and Josiah Leming.

Ever the good spirit, Jason Castro seemed to be settling in happily to life in L.A., where he has relocated while working on his album. Aiming for an October release, he said he worked with "Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi on one song. Remembering back to a year ago, he said that as hard as it was on the show, life got even busier after it ended -– the tour, singing engagements, etc. He related that a week ago he ran into Danny Gokey, who expressed relief at having a break, to which Jason told him, “Man, things are just starting to get crazy."

Associated Content's Demitra Dixon seems to really hit the nail on the dread (sorry, really, sorry) in her article. Sometimes, it takes a chick to get it.

After Jason Castro's lackadaisical approach to the Idol stage, one wasn't sure if he'd just decided that the music biz wasn't for him. However, he took his time and charted a path for himself. Maybe he's made a good choice, we'll know one the album hit's stores. For Castro the biggest thing should be staying true to his life philosophy. He's a 'no worries' kind of guy and he needs the autonomy to do a record that celebrates him. We shall see how it plays out.

One Year of the Goth Girls

This blog comes a little late, but I thought it was fitting to end our one year celebration with a tribute on our blog.

During our celebration, we presented "member voted" awards to our beloved girls...a fun little way of acknowledging some of our most devoted members, our friends. Winners in some of the most noteworthy categories were:

We've had a pretty memorable year, I'd say. The first came just a couple of weeks after we moved into our new home. Jason gave us a shout out on his blog! Don't remember? It was July 8th, and I nearly fell flat on my ass out of my computer chair when I read:

"and theres a certain group of GOTH GIRLS!! that keep gifting my with waterguns! so funnnn!"

The very first acknowledgment from Goth Daddy himself.

The American Idol tour was in full swing by that time, and plans were well underway to present our second group gift. Two bottles of wine and a HOT pair of Diesel jeans with "GG" monogrammed in red into the fly. The attached note read:

"Jason, the Goth Girls have finally found a way to get in your pants."

Jason's reaction was priceless.

And he wore them! He actually wore them. I mean...when I suggested that he should wear them after the show, I never thought he would. Yet, there he was with our jeans wrapped around that perfect ass of his. I could not believe it. It was the Goth Girl orgasm heard round the world...Jason's fan world, at least.

We got our first audio shout out from Jason that very same night during a Goth Girl live feed, and it wouldn't be the last. Since then, Jason has acknowledged us during his date night vlogs and the live webcast, and he commented on girltarist's myspace. Some of the girls were even lucky enough to hang out with Jason at the Amar a Morir after party. Lucky bitches!

However, the most shocking moment in Goth Girl history, to date, tied with Jason's Diesel clad fanny, and that was:

Betsy becoming a Goth Girl!

Okay...so not in the way that you're thinking, but she did register at our forum, completed her user profile, and posted.

"Thanks for all your support and all you do for Jason [and may I add Michael :-)] Y'all sure have a way with these boys!"

She even came back to give us an update on Jason's reaction to our third group gift, Operation Hot Stuff. Betsy sure is full of surprises and so was the last year. We can't wait to see what else is in store!

From what I understand, from the time we turn in a finished album, there's a three-month setup period. So if we start recording, let's say, at the end of this month, we'll probably be in the studio for another month, maybe month and a half. I've done the math, and I think it ends up in October, with a single in August or September. But who knows?

Atlantic Records has announced the signing of singer/songwriter Jason Castro. The Texas-based tunesmith – best known as the third runner-up on the 2008 season of Fox’s American Idol – is currently hard at work on his debut album, set for release later this year. A BIG Weekend at College Station

Jason performed at Rudder Auditorium at Texas A&M University on Saturday, March 28th. Earlier in the day, however, he put down his guitar and picked up a paint brush to help The Aggies at The Big Event, "the largest, one-day, student-run service project in the nation."

Jason at The Lincoln Recreation Center in College Station, TX

In years past, The Big Event fell on Jason's birthday weekend, so this is the first time he was able to participate. "It's great to come back and see everyone in action. This is what Aggieland is all about."

Regarding his current project, Jason advised "The Eagle" that he hoped to release his album by mid to late summer.

Ticket information for Jason's concert at Texas A&M on 3/28:

Tickets go on sale Tuesday March 10 at 11 AM CT. Ticket prices are $15.00 for students and $20.00 for everyone else.

Tickets can be purchased online or by phone by calling (979)845-1234 or toll free (888)890-5667.

The fan club presale will start at 11AM CT on Monday, March 9th. A special password will be emailed to fan club members.

The first five rows will be reserved for students.

Texas A&M University will welcome Jason back to College Station on March 28th where he will perform LIVE from Rudder Auditorium at 8:00PM. Tickets are $15 for students and $20 for non-students and can be purchased at the Rudder Box Office or online. Fan club presale information to be announced.

My How Time Flies...

It was his voice that made us take notice. His humility, charm, and goofy personality made us fall in love with him. His beautiful eyes and tight pants captivated us, and we've been under his magical spell ever since.

One year ago today, Jason sang his way into our hearts with his American Idol performance of "Daydream". It would be his first of many LIVE performances on the show. We voted tirelessly for him to stay, and that he did. Though he finished fourth place on the show, many of us, myself included, still regard him as our "American Idol". He was already the winner of that contest long before he departed it.

So, still not convinced that Goth Daddy loves us? Well, check out his latest vlog during which he answers our questions and laughs along with us. He also called out one of our crazy bitches by name. I think Laura Anne is still trying to catch her breath. Paper bag, Laura...long, controlled breaths. That's it.

Girltarist correctly answered the question of the "hefty bag covered mystery object", but Jason failed to address her personally, so she posted the following on his Myspace comments:

I'm Going to Disney World!

That's right! On February 12, 2009, over 25 American Idol personalities will motorcade down Hollywood Blvd in convertibles for the premiere of The American Idol Experience attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. Jason will be one of those 25! As part of the grand opening, fans will be able to line Hollywood Boulevard to cheer him on at this "Stars in Cars" event.

The motorcade will be open to the public, but the official premiere show and party are private functions.

More Than Just Pretty Faces and Potty Mouths

The Jason Castro Street Team has announced its State Teams Leaders. This brings to mind this blog has never addressed the Regional Leaders.
That's right, we never properly congratulated our own Singin72/Melinda for being the Southeast Regional Leader of the Jason Castro Street Team. It's a giant job and Melinda has handled it with her usual enthusiasm, diligence and charm. We are so very proud of her for taking on this challenge.

Four Goth Girls have also been chosen as State Team Leaders:

Laura Anne- Arizona and New Mexico
JCmyfascination/Tammy - Alabama
Iheartjasoncastro/Kathy - New York
Karlasu/Colleen (oh shit, that's me) - Southern California

In addition, many of our other girls have signed up for the street team and have offered to work in any capacity needed.

So does this mean the Goth Girls are going to stop lusting over this man? Hell no!
It just goes to show what we've all known for a long time. Goth Girls are smart and dedicated fans. We all intend to work our asses off for Jason!
Come on Jason, show some love to your best girls!
